How easy it is to get to Totnes

Totnes, one of the three destinations in our Language in Group schools, is a charming historic town situated in Devon, South West England. The town is well-known for its art and music scene, and was once named “capital of new age chic” by Time magazine. Furthermore, it has recently become an example of environmental commitment due to its initiative to make the change from a life dependent on oil to one that functions without.

What people may not know is how easy it is to get to Totnes. Students wanting to come to do an English course may think that this town is difficult to get to, when in fact there are many convenient ways to access it. It only takes 40 minutes from Exeter airport by train or taxi, 2.5 hours from Bristol airport by train or taxi, and 4 hours from London Heathrow. National Express bus is the easiest and cheapest way to get to Totnes from London Heathrow, as the 501 service goes direct from the airport. Just look for the central bus station in the airport.

Additionally, if you have booked homestay accommodation, we ask all host families to meet our students on arrival in Totnes – no need to try and find them yourself. So if you’re looking for an authentic English experience, give Language in Totnes a try!
