The Olympics will be the main event but the UK will be hosting the biggest party in the world… from 21 June to 9 September 2012, leading artists from all over the world will come together for the UK’s biggest-ever festival – featuring dance, music, theatre, film, comedy and much more.
Over seven million people will have the opportunity to enjoy free events during the London 2012 Festival. A series of countdown events from January onwards will give a taste of what is to come.
Highlights include the BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend featuring Leona Lewis and Plan B; a free light and fire spectacular by Les Commandos Percus on the shores of Lake Windermere; Tino Sehgal’s commission for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall; and Damon Albarn’s new opera Dr Dee (above) with Manchester International Festival.
