What do you know about your teachers at a Language in Group school? When we ask our students what characteristics they expect from an English language teacher, these are the most popular responses:
- patient
- kind
- understanding
- funny
- motivating
When we interview teachers to work at our schools, we certainly look for people who have these qualities. But what about the academic qualifications?
To work at an accredited school in Ireland or the UK, it is essential that a teacher has a degree and a professional qualification. This is either the CELTA or CELT – a teaching course covering methodology and classroom techniques. You will also find that some of your teachers have the advanced DELTA qualification, which is a more in depth course for those with a lot of experience.
Language in Dublin also specialises in training new teachers on the CELT. And all three schools (Dublin, London, Totnes) offer courses for non-native English teachers.
We’re always happy to hear your comments – so tells us what you think makes a great teacher!
